Silent Moments

Hello Friends,
I wrote this in High School and thought I might share it with you. It is based on fond memories of a little seaside village in Papua New Guinea called Bogia. Everything I portray to you, I was blessed to experience. Yes, I'm one of the weird ones who wakes up to watch the sun rise!
Life is made up of countless moments strung together like the pearls of a necklace.
Make sure your 'pearls' are real!

Silent Moments
1997
It is 6:00 am. Dawn is fast approaching. You are sitting on a log which forms a small bridge between two out-cropping coral reefs. Feel the breeze blow through your hair and listen as the palm trees rustle behind you. A slight shiver runs through your body, for the breeze still possesses the revitalizing coolness of the night.
Take a deep, cleansing breath of fresh air. Smell the beautiful fragrance of flowers blooming nearby, mixed with the fresh ocean scent. Notice how the fragrance and fresh air seem to clear your mind and chase away the last thoughts of sleep from your eyes.
As you look down, you see the water as it as it foams beneath you. Hear the gentle ‘whoosh’ as the water splashes into the reef. Revel in the feel of the cool mist surrounding you and coming to settle on the bare skin of your arms. See how the water seems to fight with itself as the wave going out to sea collides with the wave rolling in.
Look there, off into the sunrise! Feel the adrenaline rush through your body when you see about five young dolphins getting their morning exercise. Intrigued, you watch as they jump high and dive back into the water, only to burst back up with boundless energy, sending sparkling diamonds shooting across the waves. Their antics lend to the idea that they are having a contest to see who can jump the highest.
Now lifting your eyes higher, you catch your breath as the most magnificent sight greets your eyes Peaking over the horizon is the bright yellow sun. Breathlessly, you watch as streams of soft pink and blue appear across the sky. Feel the first rays of the morning sun as they begin to tickle your face. As the sun rises a little more, it brings to life a stunning array of diamonds on the ocean surface. It is almost as if you could reach out and gather them in the palm of your hand. ‘Dream Diamonds’ some call them. Suddenly, pushed by an unseen Hand, the sun bursts into the sky. Brilliant rays of sunshine are bounding all around. Now, instead of tickling your face, they are warming your body. Rays drive away the slight chill in the air and replace it with loving warmth.
Nature is really beginning to wake up now! The birds that you barely heard a few moments before are how singing at the top of their lungs. In the nearby village, people are beginning to wake up. You hear a woman cheerily singing her morning praises to her Heavenly Father. A baby’s soft cry is heard, and then the gentle, soothing voice of his father and the crying is hushed. Hear the older children as they begin to run and play; high spirits are theirs today! Men are preparing for another day at sea. Nets are being gathered, inspected, and repaired. Fishing boats are made ready for another busy day.
A feeling of awe overwhelms you as you begin to realize the God who painted the sunrise, the God who sprinkled the ocean with diamonds, the God who danced with the dolphins, the God who composed love songs for the birds too sing to you, He is the God who loves you. Looking up into the heavens, you see a Hand. Smiling, you grasp that Hand and look to the Son. It is time to go now. As you walk away, you know without a shadow of a doubt that you have been in the presence of Almighty God. Even though not a word was spoken, your spirit is refreshed and revived. You realize once again that most often, it is when you take time for those silent moments, when you come before God in silent wonder, that is when He speaks the loudest.

  4. I nearly cried, Julie! It was as if I were there--wait, I was there (:
But you brought it alive for me again! Thank you for that! And thank you for calling to attention the closeness of God at this very moment.
