So, I was having my quiet time with God this morning, learning about how we as Christians have the mind of Christ in us, thus enabling us to live out His thoughts, His passions, His heartbeat, His purpose. According to the Gospel of St. John, Jesus' entire existence was for one purpose, and one purpose only ~ to glorify the Father. (this is another line of thought~ not for today)
What was the compelling reason why Jesus was willing to die? When Jesus prayed in the garden, what was the compelling reason that he was obedient to the death? Jesus didn’t pray “Father, I don’t want to to drink this cup, but I love the sinner so much that I will”. No, Jesus prayed “Father, I don’t want to drink this cup, but I love YOU so much that I will. I want You to be glorified so desperately that if this is what it takes, if this is Your ultimate glorification, I would drink this cup twice for You.”
What if it wasn’t because Jesus loved me (though He does)that he 'drank the cup', but that He loves the Father first and formost. What if Jesus knew that his death would bring the greatest glory to the Father, because it is a glory that keeps on glorifying, perhaps it could be called ~perpetual glory~.
(Please understand, I am in no way diminishing the love Jesus has for us; a love that compelled him to die, a love that was offered first and formost the our Heavenly Father, a love that put in motion the Sacrifice that divides eternity. Maybe I could say it like this: Jesus died for mankind because God loves mankind, and dying for the Fathers created (you and me) was the greatest gift of love Jesus could give the Father. We just happen to be blessed recipients of that love.)
Think of this. Jesus, one life, one death glorified the Father, but every time someone gets saved, that glory is magnified. What if the light of Glory that surrounds the Father in Heaven began with a spark at Jesus' death and resurrection and grows ever brighter with each soul that comes to Him, with each thought, word and action that is done simply to glorify the Father. What if Jesus set in motion the perpetual glory that lights all heaven for all eternity, that never fades away.
And what if, just what if that glory brightens (or dims) as a result of my actions? We are called to carry the light into the world, and the brighter our light, the more the darkness dissipates.
Now here is a question for any scientific minds....is there a limit to brightness? Is there a measure whereby we can measure brightness? ...just wondering.
Back to the mind of Christ in us;
This is the mind of Christ~ complete, total, utter dependence on the Heavenly Father. A desire to glorify the Father, so deep and consuming that it consumed Him. Why do we make it so difficult? Why do we make having the mind of Christ almost like a baloon floating just out of reach, but always chasing? If a child cannot err in the precious Gospel, cannot glorifying the Father be as simple as a young child who picks a handful of beautiful flowers just because he loves his mother? If I lack desire to please the Father, or resist complete dependence on Him cannot the smallest, smoking ember of desire, if coaxed and protected, like the glowing ember grow into a consuming fire, fed by the oxygen of His Love? I believe so.
What if that became a daily reality in my life? God, May it be so.
"A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench.."
Isaiah 42:3
"Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,who, existing in the form of God....emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men...and he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross."
Phil 2:5-8
So maybe this covers more than one line of thought....but still, I wonder in amazement...what if?
